Pipe Cooling Process

Cooling Tablejpg_Page36

After the pipe exits the temper furnace it needs to be cooled prior to further processing. In most applications the pipe is allowed to air cool. Forced cooling is not utilized because it may cause problems. If one side of the pipe is cooled faster than the other side the contraction will be uneven and the pipe will bend. Uniform cooling is important. The cooling time required is under estimated in a lot of installations.

Drag Chain conveyors are often used to keep the pipe turning during the cooling process. An improvement over the drag chain conveyor is the rotating disc cooling table. With this table the uniformity of cooling is increased while also increasing the cooling rate.
